Atomic Burger

A really interesting vibe: the walls are covered in comic memorabilia, there are playable arcade machines, and a randomised pop playlist.

I have no complaints about the service, and you get a lollypop with your bill – I am basically still a child.

The price is a bit expensive but you do get a free one on your birthday!

The room is large and the wall is pulled back in summer, however the door doesn’t always close properly so there are some tables that are freezing.

The burgers are really tasty and the menu is packed full of flavour combinations (or you can make your own).

You can get different combinations of bun, patty, toppings, and fries options so there is an option for everyone.

The vege-burger is great and a number of different vegetarian topping combinations are available (or make your own, of course).

The fries are nice, but they lack a bit of flavour; especially the sci-fries which you expect to be packed full of it.

Gallagher’s Boxty

Dublin Ireland

The restaurant was quite busy, being in Temple Bar, however we were seated straight away.

The service was fine, however the lady serving us seemed to want to hurry us.

The prices were fine if you were sharing, but otherwise pricey; although this is expected in Temple Bar.

The rest of the restaurant was nice and open, however we were sad underground in a little inlet which was quite… cozy.

The stew tasting platter is incredible: the three stews are packed with flavour and the meat melted in the mouth. It was perfectly complemented by the selection of breads.

Taste

It was a large menu and included a number of platters so you could try a few of their delicious dishes.

There were a few vegetarian dishes, but the stars of the show were the meat ones.

The absolute highlight of this restaurant are their potato pancakes: “Boxty”. Their boxty fries, served with garlic aioli, are – in a word – perfect. All of the greatness of fries with additional flavour and texture.

Paul’s Boutique

Ghent Belgium

I first visited this restaurant in 2018

The atmosphere was really nice and relaxed, but it seemed more like a lunch place than a dinner place.

The people behind the bar were friendly and welcoming – you can’t put a price on an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Price

Really good. Nothing was over 10€ and sides were max. 5€ when we went.

It wasn’t very big, but it never seemed cramped. You could also see them cooking the burgers. Some people might not like the shared tables (though I did) and there was a cactus that we kept spiking ourselves on accidentally.

So good. The sauce was incredible and it was well seasoned and perfectly cooked.

Being a burger restaurant, it only sold burgers, but there was a good range (beef, chicken, fish, and veggie) and a crazily long list of toppings.

There were many veggie and vegan options and (almost) all of the burgers could be veggefied and replaced by an incredible soyburger.

There were 4 different potato options. The wedges were good and perfectly cooked but seemed a bit under seasoned (although we feel maybe they were just overwhelmed the really flavoursome burger).

It feels really chill and modern, but it can lack character during less busy periods.

The service is generally fine, but sometimes you’ll get stuck in a corner and be unable to catch anyone’s attention

The prices are a bit expensive, but it is London so you do expect that.

The tables are laid out nicely and you can see into the kitchen as they are making the food, so the smell of grilled meats fills the air.

The food is great, and I’m an especially big fan of their Iskender – a great combination of so many flavours that got me hooked on natural yoghurt.

There is a relatively large range of dishes, including grilled and stove cooked options, and cold and hot mezze too.

There are not many vegetarian dishes at all and, as I said before, the whole place smells like meat.

There were some potato dishes, however they aren’t anything special.

Big Fernand

Paris France

It kind of lacked a bit of atmosphere, especially compared to the other restaurants around it.

The service was good, quick, and friendly and they were willing to translate for us.

Service

Price

The price was a bit expensive, however the 15€ did include a drink and a side, which is good for the centre of Paris.

The room was a bit small and so we had to get up to let people out, however you could watch them grilling the burgers and toasting the buns which was nice.

The burgers were great. The beef and the quality french cheeses they used were very tasty, and all of the flavour combinations worked.

As a burger restaurant, they only served burgers, but there were a number of choices of toppings and sides.

There were a food choice of vegetarian burgers: one of which was a bean, potato, and chickpea patty, which sounds incredible.

Edamame

The atmosphere in edamame is unique. Always bustling and busy and yet enjoyable to be amongst the throng of people.

The service is the right kind of fast. If you want a long meal with friends or a quick lunch before jetting off, it works here. Once, our order was messed up but they were very apologetic and gave us complementary edamame whilst we waited.

Price

The prices change with each menu but they are great value, rarely does a bill end up over £15 unless you want it to

The hustle and bustle is great, but it means that sometimes you have to climb over people to get to your chair.

Every meal here comes out perfectly; traditional cooking by a Japanese family: everything you could want. Every menu is great.

There are different lunch, dinner, and sushi menus, each of which has options for everyone, as well as specials and sides on sheets on the wall.

There are a good number of vegetarian options and they also do vegetarian miso soup (to replace the miso that comes with every meal) which is a nice touch.

Brother Hubbard

The restaurant was really nice and welcoming and just gave the feeling that the food would be good.

The service was really good and the staff were really attentive (but not too attentive) when it came to drinks and food being finished.

Slightly more expensive than some of the other great places we went to in Dublin, but the quality definitely meant it was good value.

When you first walk in, there is a cute little café area, and there was some really nice outside seating area, however there didn’t seem to be any heating when it got colder.

The prices weren’t cheap, however with student discount and the lunch menu they were fine. The beers weren’t too expensive.

The space was really nice: the décor had all been made specially in Malaysia for the restaurant and the open style meant it was full of cooking smells.

The food was incredible and very Satay-sfying. It went really well with the coconut beer, which was served in a coconut itself. Full of flavour and the perfect balance of flavour and spice.
